Computed tomography (CT scan) is one of the standard examinations in modern medicine. In the entire south of Tanzania as well as in the north of Mozambique – i.e. within a radius of 500 km around our hospital – this examination is not yet available.
For patients with stroke or cerebral hemorrhage, tumors and many other diseases, CT is essential for a reliable diagnosis and therapy planning.
With regards to the high demand for this investigation, the management of the hospital has decided to install a CT scan machine in 2020.
A radiation protection room must be provided by the hospital. Therefore some reconstruction work is necessary at our x-ray department. The total expenses for this project including construction, CT Scan machine and UPS are about 300.000 €. So far we have saved about 60% of these funds (July 2020).
