This year’s world day for the sick in the catholic church was commemorated on 11th February 2024. Our hospital organized a whole week of outreach camps in order to extend healthcare services to communities in need. The event aimed to reach out to residents of nearby villages, offering essential medical examinations, tests, and the opportunity for voluntary blood donation.
Seven outreach camps were conducted in different neighbouring communities around the hospital from 5th to 11th/02/2024, where we offered a medical check-up with measurement of blood pressure, blood glucose, HIV- and Hepatitis B tests. All services were provided free of charge for the people of the villages.
A total of 265 villagers came for a check-up. High blood pressure was diagnosed in 78 of these people (29%), diabetes mellitus in 7 (3%) and one participant was tested HIV-positive. All participants with abnormal findings were counselled for adequate treatment.
208 units of blood were donated. Blood donation drives are very important for our hospital, because we often have a shortage of banked blood. These campaigns are therefore life-saving for our patients in the hospital. At the same time, they also promote a sense of solidarity with the sick among the population in the surrounding villages.
