Peritoneal Dialysis

From October, 15th 2018 until October, 19th, nephrologist Dr. Kajiru Kilonzo together with dialysis nurse Mrs. Willina Sarina were visiting Ndanda with the aim of initiating Peritoneal Dialysis (PD).

Three patients were initiated with peritoneal dialysis. Intensive training sessions were performed for our doctors and nurses.

It is the first time that dialysis is performed in the South of Tanzania!

In December 2018 we started Peritoneal Dialysis for another patient.
PD was life saving for all 4 patients who were included into the programme.

However, for reasons not related to PD, three of these patients have died meanwhile.

But our very first patient Dominik, 21 years old, managed to get kidney transplantation at MNH/Dar Es Salaam in July 2018. He received support from our social funds.

Now he is doing well.

This is a great achievement for the hospital as well as for the Southern Zone of Tanzania!
