St. Benedict Ndanda Referral Hospital laboratory building was constructed in 2015 under the project of East Africa Public Health Laboratory Networking Project (EAPHLNP). The laboratory has 6 sections, namely Hematology, Blood Transfusion, Parasitology, Clinical chemistry, Serology and Microbiology.
Our team consists of 18 experienced and dedicated employees under the leadership of Sia Temu, who has a master’s degree in microbiology and epidemiology. Back-up machines are installed for all important equipment. Therefore, all tests are usually available without interruption, even in the event of a technical defect.
Our laboratory offers more than 90 laboratory investigations and per day samples of about 150-200 patients are received. In total, more than 140,000 tests are carried out per year. In most cases, the results are available in our electronic patient management system within 1-2 hours of the sample being taken. For special investigations we cooperate with Muhimbili National Hospital and for tissue biopsy samples with Good Samaritan Cancer Institute Ifakara. The laboratory is certified in accordance with ISO standard 15189.
