The purpose of this department is to help poor patients, who are not able to cover the expenses for investigations, medical equipment, drugs or procedures. Other patients are in need of hospital food or a bus ticket for their return travel.
Children up to 12 years can get exemption through the project Exemptions for children, which is also facilitated by this office.
Our Social Welfare Officer screens the patients with financial constraints and provides help as required.
In addition to that, he also provides counselling and conflict resolution in family matters as well as legal education.
Abdulkarimu J. Kambona, 26 years old, had an accident in 2019 with a leg injury and he was brought to our facility for further management. On discharge, he was advised to come back later for plate removal.
Unfortunately, when he came to our facility on 09/03/2021, he had a severely infected wound at the site of the fracture and he was totally neglected by his family. We exempted him and saved his life by spending around TSH 800.000 for his treatment.
In 2020, a total of 334 patients received exemptions with a volume of TSh 21.273.000 (equal to 7.900 €).
46 patients promised to pay treatment expenses later after discharge in small installments.
So far, 243 children under 12 years were exempted through the project Exemptions for children with a volume of TSh 23.000.000 (8.518 €).
The services of our social welfare department are available for our outpatients, inpatients, relatives of patients and for hospital staff.
