Computed tomography (CT scan) is one of the standard examinations in modern medicine. In the entire south of Tanzania as well as in the north of Mozambique – i.e. within a radius of 500 km around our hospital – this examination is not yet available.
For patients with stroke or cerebral hemorrhage, tumors and many other diseases, CT is essential for a reliable diagnosis and therapy planning.
With regards to the high demand for this investigation, the management of the hospital has decided to install a CT scan machine early in 2021.
Construction for the radiation protection room has already started in November 2020. Thanks to generous donations, we have managed to order the machine early in February 2021. We expect the machine to be delivered and installed in May 2021.
