Laparoscopy Camp 2024
From November 4th to November 24th 2024, our facility hosted a camp for gynaecological
laparoscopy led by Dr. Marita Anwander, an experienced gynaecologist from Germany. This
20-day camp focused on providing advanced gynaecological care through minimally invasive
surgery while also training our local medical team in these cutting-edge techniques. The
collaboration aimed to enhance women’s healthcare services in the region and build the
hospital’s capacity for specialized treatment.
During the camp, 5 laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomies were performed for conditions such as uterine fibroids, heavy menstrual bleeding, and pelvic pain. Additionally, 2 laparoscopic cystectomies were conducted for ovarian cysts and endometriomas, and 7 diagnostic laparoscopic procedures addressed cases of unexplained pelvic pain and infertility. In addition to that, more than 30 routine gynaecological surgeries were carried out. The camp strengthened the hospital’s ability to deliver high-quality care through skill transfer and the adoption of minimally invasive surgical techniques.
We are so grateful to our Senior Expert gynaecologist Dr. Marita, who has sacrificed her free time for this assignment in order to improve women`s health care in the region around Ndanda.
