On January 5, 2024, the chemotherapy ward was handed over by the contractor.
We were able to restructure an area of the hospital that was previously unused. Patients can register at the reception desk and their vital signs are measured in the same room. Patients then stay in the waiting area until they are called into the doctor's room by the oncologist. The doctor prescribes the medication, which is prepared by the pharmacist in a special room in a biosafety cabinet. From there, the medication is brought to the treatment room via a specially constructed corridor.
The patients receive the infusions, which are usually administered over several hours, at the treatment bay. Six special chemotherapy chairs are available there, where the patients can sit or lie comfortably during the application.
In December 2023, some of our employees completed training in this area. On January 11, an oncologist from Dar es Salaam visits us for the first time; on this day, we can already start treating the first patients.
